Good-bye SAU. Hello Australia.

So I have officially graduated from Southern Adventist University (SAU) with a Bachelors degree in Theology and a Minor in Biblical Languages (for those who don't know, no the Bible was not written in English, it was written in ancient Hebrew and Greek). My time at SAU was absolutely phenomenal. I learned so much about life, ministry, and Jesus that I leave there a totally different person. I also learned a ton about Adventism, our history, beliefs, and significance in the world and while I arrived at SAU with doubts and anxieties concerning our denomination I leave with the most profound confidence in who we are, what we believe, and what it means to be a part of this movement. For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I am stoked about our movement and the story that we have been called to tell the world.

So what does the future hold for us? Well, being that I am writing this blog in Australia I suppose that will be a good place to start. The day after graduation my family and I embarked on a 30 hour journey to Australia to begin the next chapter of our lives. We feel that Jesus has called us to tell his story and introduce him to the secular/ post-modern culture that characterizes most of the Australian continent. So that's why we are here. It's not the beaches that brought us back, it's the burning desire to tell a world without God that there is a world with God and that it's a much better world than this world will ever be.

In Galatians 2:8 we read that Peter was an "apostle to the Jews". In Romans 11:13 we read that Paul was an "apostle to the Gentiles". In the same way Candy and I believe God has called us to be apostles to the post-moderns. The word apostle means "messenger" and it is our privilege for Jesus to send us to Australia with the message of his life, love, and soon return. While we don't know exactly what God has in store for us, we're excited to see where he leads.

Good-bye SAU. Hello Australia.

  1. You and Candy are in my thoughts and prayers! What area of Australia will you be initially settling in? Have you gone there on your own by God's leading or are you sponsored by the church in some way? My son, Anthony Nelson, has enjoyed reading several of your blogs and would love to have you speak at our church or for a youth conference or camp meeting....so hopefully that can happen someday.

    1. Hello Jerry! Thank you for your prayers, we need them! We are here by God's leading. I don't have a conference sponsored job or anything. We are going to be working in Western Australia in the Perth city region. And yes! it would be great to speak at your church someday, just keep me posted and we can work something out.

      Blessings,
      Marcos
