God Is Out There - In the Bars and Brothels - Looking for His Kids

The work of an evangelist is kind of interesting when I think about it. Jesus is actively involved in softening the hearts of people so they can come to him. His Spirit draws them in little by little. Then someone who knows Jesus somehow connects with this lost sheep due to Gods leading. God places the right words in that persons heart so they can share Jesus in a powerful way. The lost sheep hears about Jesus and is moved to seek him out and find him, but this is not due to the Christians effort, its due to the Spirit of God already working in that person. Then along comes an Evangelist, preaches a series of meetings inviting people to give their heart to Jesus and this lost sheep comes forward and gives his heart to Jesus. This isn't due to the hard work of the evangelist. This is due to God softening that persons heart, sending people into his life to tell him about Jesus, bringing him to the church to hear the sermons that come from Gods word, and the continuing ministry of the Holy Spirit on that persons heart. So the evangelist really has little to boast about. He is simply a tool that God uses to help nudge a lost sheep onto the right path.

A friend once asked me an interesting question. When a doctor performs a surgery and it goes well, Do you praise the doctor for how amazing he is? Or do you praise his tools? Obviously the answer is the doctor. Each of us is a tool in God's tool bag that he uses to bring other people to him. What an awesome privilege to be used by God to bring others to Jesus.

For the next few weeks I will be in Macon, GA preaching an evangelistic series and inviting people to give their lives to Jesus. I recognize that if there is any success its because God is out there every night - in the clubs, bars, street corners, drug houses and brothels softening hearts and drawing lost sheep to himself. He loves his kids and he is willing to go to any length to save them. As I go into this evangelistic series my prayer is that God would use me to lead others to Jesus. Not religion. Not rules. Not Bible data. Not prophetic scenarios. Not denomination. Jesus. If only we could all see him, high and lifted up, and realize that all he wants is to have an intimate relationship with each of us that surpasses even the intimacy of marriage, I wonder what would happen?

So here's to it. I'll be back in four weeks. Till then, pray that God would use me to introduce people to Jesus.
"[Y]ou were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ..." - 1 Peter 1:18-19
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
Nothing short of God can satisfy your soul. Therefore, fix on Him in all, through all, and above all... - John Wesley, How To Pray
"The matchless love of God for a world that did not love Him!... The more we study the divine character in the light of the cross... the more clearly we discern innumerable evidences of a love that is infinite and a tender pity surpassing a mother's yearning sympathy for her wayward child" - Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ

"Jesus is more than an intriguing cultural icon, more than a fascinating story, more than a worldview, and more than another religious guru among the myriads. Jesus is truth, and although the culture mocks the declaration, those who know it cannot help but predicate it. Jesus is real. He can be experienced. He can be known."
