Why Hell Can't Be Real 3

In this blog I would like to share the implications of a non-eternal hell doctrine which is known as annihilationism. This doctrine teaches that hell does not burn for ever and ever but that sinners are totally destroyed. While they face the justice of God for their sin He does not torture them for all eternity. Here are the implications:

First of all, this doctrine necessitates that God is the only being with immortality since sinful humans are destroyed completely, body and soul, in the lake of fire. This view is more in line with the biblical teaching that God alone is immortal (John 5:21,26; 1 Timothy 6:16; 1 John 5:12) and it also explains why man seeks immortality - because he does not inherently possess it (Romans 2:7).

Second, Christ taught eternal life is restricted to believers only (John 3:16). This view is therefore consistent with what Jesus taught. He did not contrast eternal life in heaven with eternal life in hell. He contrasted eternal life in heaven with death. Unbelievers do not spend an eternity in hell fire, they perish.

Third, this view implies that hell fire consumes the wicked showing that God is loving and just because He punishes in proportion to sin. (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 22:12). God does not allow the wicked into heaven because they would be miserable there (Rev 6:15-16). This view is also consistent with the biblical teaching that God has no pleasure in death of wicked (Ezekiel 33:11).

Fourth, this view affirms Gods sovereignty because He is able to restore the universe to the way He created it and eliminates the virus of sin and its consequences (Mal 4:1, Gen 2:16,17).

Fifth, this view is consistent with the biblical teaching that the "dead know nothing" (Ecclesiastes 9:5,6). This truth sets us free from the deception of Satan impersonating deceased loved ones.

Sixth, the peace of heaven is maintained because the righteous will not live in the presence of/ or with the realization that fellow humans beings are being forever tormented without possibility of end throughout the ceaseless ages (Revelation 21:4).

Seventh, this view is consistent with the weight of biblical evidence, thus a handful of verses are not used to teach what the bible in its entirety does not teach. Therefore, the authority and unity of scripture is maintained.

Eight, God's character is vindicated. He is not a tyrant, sadist, or dictator who created an eternally burning realm where all who rejected Him would live. Instead, He is a just and holy God who punishes the wicked justly according to what they have done.
